-Registrations are now open for the 2020 Zurich Marató Barcelona
-The 42 edition of the event will take place on 15 March 2020
-The new route will still be urban and monumental, and it will also be ideal for setting a fast time, as seen in the male and female records in the 2019 edition
Barcelona, 23/05/2019. The Zurich Marató Barcelona opens enrolments today for the next edition, which will take place on 15 March 2020. The first 10,000 enrolments will be charged a cheaper entrance fee -61.5 euros-, the same price since 2014.
One of the main incentives will be the new circuit, launched in 2019 with great success, with track records in both the men's and women's events. Alemu Bekele (Bahrain) crossed the finish line in 2:06:04, smashing the previous record (set in 2010) by more than a minute. The Ethiopian runner Kuftu Tahir lowered the female record to 2:24:44. It is hoped that these two records will be lowered even more in the 2020 edition, on a race route designed for speed. This will be done without giving up the spectacular nature of a monumental route that passes in front of the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, the Camp Nou, the monument to Christopher Columbus or Torre Glòries, to mention just a few places. Service and care for the athletes is another of the key points.
The internationalization and globalization of the Marató is a fact, as shown by the increase in the number of countries represented in 2019 (107). This is a record for the event, in which one in two entrants was from another country.
In 2020 the race is expected to continue growing in every way. Apart from the track records and the increase in the number of entrants in comparison, the number of spectators cheering the athletes on the streets was also higher. To top it all, there was Expo Sports, the number 1 sports fair in Spain.
