10 reasons to run the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2021

We know you’re really keen to wear a bib in a major race again. Barcelona awaits you to offer you the best we have, a magical circuit in a spectacular city. If you are still hesitating, we will give you 10 reasons to line up at the start on November 7th. Remember, if you take part this year you’ve already come up a winner!

-Your circuit: Run the Modernist route.

The mark left by Gaudí and the other Modernist architects in Barcelona is amazing. You will pass emblematic buildings and places such as the Passeig de Gràcia, with buildings like Casa Amatller or Casa Batlló; a few kilometres later you will see the Sagrada Familia, the Parc de la Ciutadella and the Arc de Triomf.

-A fast circuit.

A flat, fast route. In 2019 Barcelona inaugurated a new circuit and the race record was beaten in both the men’s and the women’s categories. Thanks to the changes, which will be maintained for 2021, the elevation gain was reduced and one or two tricky corners were removed.

-Your friends will be able to ‘follow’ you.

Barcelona’s Metro (Underground) network is ideal for your friends and/or relatives to move around the city and cheer you on from a number of points along a circuit that is accessible to the public.

-A weekend full of activities for all the family.

The Breakfast Run, the Kids Race and the Pasta Party take place the day before the race, and Expo Sports opens its doors on Friday and Saturday. All these activities are designed for runners and people accompanying them.

-Good weather.

Around November 11 the weather tends to stabilize in Barcelona. There is a kind of truce between the October rains and the start of winter. The temperature is very pleasant, ideal to take on a race of this type.

-History backs up the ZMB.

This year’s race will be the 42nd edition of the event; quite an achievement! An iconic number and closely related to the distance run by Pheidippides in Greece all those years ago. The Barcelona Marathon was first held in 1978 and has become a reference event in international athletics. Services to participants have always been one of the organization’s priorities.

-Enjoy a magical experience.

Enjoy a magical weekend in Barcelona, one of the most beautiful and admired cities in the world. The 42-kilometre route runs through the centre of a city whose history breathes Mediterranean atmosphere, music and colour all along the circuit.

-Barcelona supports its marathon to the hilt

The city turns into a giant party on the day of the Marathon. The people of Barcelona come out onto the streets to cheer on the runners and support them.

-Looking forward to seeing you again

It has been a long time since 10 March 2019. Too long. Two years and eight months of uncertainty. That is why we are looking forward to seeing you again more than ever. And the first-timers… you will be welcomed with open arms. Many new features await you in this edition of the event.

-Anti-Covid measures

Experience has taught us a lot. We are preparing a series of measures together with the health and local authorities for the race to take place on November 7 with the best possible guarantees of safety.
