10K BCN: The Marathon in 10k

  • On 8th of May, experience the essence of the marathon in a fast 10k in solidarity with Ukrainian refugees.
  • A 10km circuit that will allow participants to take part in the city’s great running festival, the Zurich Marató Barcelona.
  • With the same start and finish line on Avenida Mª Cristina, participants will enjoy the impressive start of the Barcelona’s Marathon.

18.03.22- On Sunday, 8th of May, as part of the parallel activities of the Zurich Maratón Barcelona, we will experience, for the first time, a 10k race. With the start scheduled at 8.20am (20 minutes after the start of the Barcelona’s Marathon), those participants will experience the marathon atmosphere at first hand, as they will share the start and finish line with the long-distance run.

The emblematic song “Barcelona” by Montserrat Caballé and Freddie Mercury will be the prelude to the start of the Marathon. These magical moments will allow participants to experience all the essence of the marathon, but transformed into a fast and supportive 10k. A 10K for all runners who want to take part in the great festival of Running and also be in solidarity with the victims of the invasion in Ukraine.

Solidarity race: Barcelona supports Ukrainian refugees

The 10k Marathon will have an important solidarity aspect, with the donation of €2 from each registration fee that will go to the Red Cross. There will also be a zero bib number, allowing each runner to make an extra donation.

The route

An approved 10k route that will allow runners to complete a fast circuit along long and wide roads such as Carrer de Sants, Travessera de les Corts or Carrer Tarragona with few turns and which will share, at its start, part of the route of the Barcelona’s Marathon. The start and finish line in Avenida Mª Cristina, with the Magic Fountains and the Palau Nacional in the background, will undoubtedly be one of the great attractions of this race.

Shared services

On the weekend of 6th and 8th of May, the Catalan capital will experience the great running weekend. From Friday, 6th of May, the participants of the 10k, as well as the marathon runners, will be able to pick up their race numbers at the Expo Sports venue.

Located in the pavilion nº7 of Fira Barcelona in Montjuïc, from 10h to 20h, the Expo Sports will focus the sport spotlight with numerous stands of brands of the sector, as well as parallel activities such as the Breakfast Run or the Kids Race, the children’s races of the Zurich Maratón Barcelona.

On the race day, from 6:30h until 8:15h, there will be a cloakroom service available for those had registered for the race. A group of hares will be organised to run the 10km circuit at the following paces: 35′, 40′, 45′, 50′, 55′, 60′.

The organisation will set up a liquid refreshment point at km 5 and participants will receive a finisher’s bag at the arrival.

Additional services

Those registered for this race, will be able to purchase, if they wish, a pack of photographs of their participation. A souvenir for life that a group of professional photographers will take along the route.
